Does this business offer something genuinely rooted in culture, craft, or community — something you can’t find just anywhere?
- Does the business offer products, services, or experiences rooted in a specific cultural tradition, heritage, or artisan practice?
- Is the story behind the business or its products shared with customers — founder story, cultural origin, or craft history?
- Does the business offer something that cannot easily be found at a mainstream or big-box retailer?
- Are the products or experiences authentically connected to the community or culture they represent?
- Does the business offer educational opportunities — classes, demonstrations, tastings, or storytelling?
Quality products & services
Can you trust what you’re buying? Is care and knowledge woven into everything they offer?
- Are products handmade, locally sourced, or crafted using traditional methods?
- Does the business stand behind its products with clear return, exchange, or satisfaction policies?
- Is staff knowledgeable about the products and able to speak to their origin, materials, or process?
- Are products consistently available and presented with care and attention to detail?
- Does the business maintain positive customer reviews or testimonials?
Welcoming environment
Will every visitor feel respected, included, and genuinely at home from the moment they walk in?
- Is the space clean, organized, and thoughtfully presented?
- Are customers greeted warmly and made to feel comfortable, whether or not they make a purchase?
- Is the business accessible and inclusive — considering language, mobility, and cultural sensitivity?
- Does the business actively engage with and give back to its local community?
